The Telangana government has approved the development of an airport in Adilabad. Orders have been issued to acquire 700 acres of land as part of the state’s plan to build six regional airports.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) submitted a techno-economic feasibility report confirming that the Adilabad airport project is viable. Based on this, the government has directed the Adilabad Collector to begin land acquisition.
The project will function as a joint-use airfield, with coordination between the state government, AAI and the civil aviation department. Both state and central officials will monitor progress and planning.
Officials say the airport will significantly improve connectivity in northern Telangana, boosting tourism and supporting industrial growth in the region. This move aims to strengthen development in a district located at the edge of the state map.
AAI has already prepared the master plan. The airport will have a 3 km runway, a civilian terminal on one side and an Indian Air Force station on the other. The IAF has given its NOC and already holds 370 acres in Shantinagar, which includes an old airstrip from the Nizam era.
