Government contracts are often hot favorites for contractors. There is no one to check the quality control and so, there is enough room for huge profits. But then, there are no takers for contracts in Andhra Pradesh since 2019. The State Government is struggling to pay salaries for its staff with no revenues.
The Government is getting loans to pay for the freebies. The financial position of the state is so scary that the government is sitting on a huge pile of pending bills. The contractors who did various contracts in the Government are struggling to get their bills cleared. Hence, there is no response for various contracts in the state.
Recently, according to a report in Eenadu, tenders were called for 60 works in road projects of Prakasam district. In the first instance, there was only one bidder who also failed to qualify. While calling the tenders for the second time, the officials called the contractors for a meeting and convinced them to participate.
In the second instance, there is only one bidder for three out of the 60 works in the district. The officials will now have to call the tenders for the third time. This is very much the situation in all the districts. The contractors of the state are now trying their luck in other states but are reluctant to do works in AP and then, endlessly wait for their bills to be cleared.
