What If Special Status Bill Gets Passed?

BJP Successfully stalled the proceedings of Rajya Sabha not allowing the Private Member Bill on Special Status of Andhra Pradesh. Rajya Sabha will again begin proceedings on Monday. The relief is just temporary for BJP as it will come in one form or other at some other time. While this is that way, what if the bill is passed?

Only 15 Private Member Bills are passed in the history of Parliament till date. The last being a private member’s Bill protecting and providing rights for transgenders put up by DMK member Tiruchi Siva. Usually, governments ask the member to withdraw bill promising action on such issues. Back in 2015, the government promised to bring a fresh Bill after removing the impractical clauses.

It is not that easy to pass the Special Status Bill. Even if it is passed, the Center is not obliged to follow that. So Special Status Private Bill at most can help Congress Politically. The Special Status to Andhra Pradesh will most depend on the political will of BJP and its calculations behind it.
