The Flood problem faced by Kondaveeti Vagu every year may prove to be a problem in the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh if the state government do not address it. Five streams originate in the upland areas and join Krishna River at various points.
Among these Kondaveeti Bagu flood villages like Mandadam with 4,000 to 5,000 cusecs of floodwater every year. The Vagu is known for creating havoc in Tadikonda and Amaravathi mandal every year. The waters also flood the Amaravathi Road bringing the traffic to a stand still on Guntur- Amaravathi road during peak monsoon.
The issue was recently brought up for discussion during a visit of the Singapore team. CRDA officials asked the experts to come up with a solution for this problem. Previously governments have revealed plans of modernizing the stream but with very little progress. CRDA officials clarified that this problem needs to be countered only at the initial stages so that it does not create problem once the population soars there.
