Andhra Pradesh has renewed its hopes on the promised Special Status with Niti Aayog is announced by the Central government in the place of Planning Commission. Andhra Pradesh does not fit in to norms of current ‘Special Status’ and it is said that the new institution will consider the Special Status may be by distorting the rules.
Earlier there was a buzz that Center will confer the benefits of the Special Status like special packages and incentives to backward regions of the state without the name of ‘Special Status’. Anyways, Andhra Pradesh is hoping that with the new institution in place, either the Special Status or the benefits with out name will be finalized very soon.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is expected to lobby hard for this with the Central government in his Delhi visit next week. Special Status for Andhra Pradesh for a period of 10 years is one of the vital poll promises of BJP to the residuary state.
