Battered Hotel Industry Open Their Rooms to Battle COVID19 Outbreak

Corona Crisis has confined Indians to indoors. All the businesses have collapsed. The major business that is hit is that of the hoteliers. All the rooms are vacant for a couple of weeks and there is no food business as well due to the Lockdown conditions.

However, the big hotel chains have proved their magnanimity by opening their doors for quarantining suspect patients, asymptomatic travelers or for accommodating medical staff battling the outbreak. About 45,000 hotel rooms across the country belonging to ITC, Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), The Lalit, Lemon Tree, and others have opened their doors in these difficult times.

Tourism Ministry is in touch with the industry associations to facilitate the same. Some of the rooms are being provided on a pro bono basis, while others are being charged at a discounted rate. Tourists stuck in India after International flight operations were stalled have also been accommodated in some of these rooms.

Almost all the hotels are serving free food have also been providing thousands of free meals on a daily basis to the health departments of various states, government hospitals, and police stations. in this time of Crisis. Even some lesser-known standalone properties were also a part of this drive.
