KCR: Silence or Helplessness?

Yesterday, the BRS celebrated the 15th anniversary of Deeksha Diwas, the day in 2009 when the party’s founder and president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, started a fast-unto-death to demand statehood for Telangana.

BRS leaders held meetings, rallies, and prayers at martyrs’ memorials across the state. The party’s working president, KT Rama Rao, participated in a meeting in Alugunur, Karimnagar. Senior leader Harish Rao took part in events in his constituency, Siddipet.

Kavitha, who had been inactive in politics over the last few months, attended the ceremonies at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad and also participated in the rally.

However, the main man, KCR, was expectedly absent from the Deeksha Diwas events. The main aim of conducting these rallies and meetings was to remind people how BRS (formerly known as TRS) fought for Telangana and highlight that Congress was in power at that time.

For the last 10 years, BRS never celebrated Deeksha Diwas on such a huge scale but is now doing so suddenly. This is a clear indication that the party is targeting Congress and reminding people how it opposed separate statehood back then.

However, if KCR is missing on such an important day, the message cannot be conveyed to the people effectively. KTR and Harish Rao have been criticizing the government frequently, but if KCR had come out yesterday and spoken about the current government, it would have resonated strongly with the people. Until he remains in political exile, BRS’s efforts will be in vain, opined political experts.

He has been in exile since the party lost in assembly elections last year. He came to campaign for parliament elections but BRS failed to secure a single Lok Sabha seat. Generally, one would expect KCR to work harder to bring back the glory of his party during these tough times. But he seems to be constantly disappointing his party followers, supporters and people of Telangana.
