In what is being seen as bad news for BRS top line leaders, the SIT is preparing to track WhatsApp calls made before the 2023 elections. The move comes as the phone tapping case in Telangana gathers more attention.
At present Telangana politics is focused on the phone tapping case. After Hyderabad Commissioner VC Sajjanar took charge as the head of the second SIT the probe has picked up pace. Officials are now working with more urgency.
Earlier the investigation stayed limited to lower level officers and small leaders. Now senior BRS leaders are under scrutiny. Harish Rao and KTR have already been questioned by the SIT as part of this probe.
Based on data collected so far the SIT has shifted its attention to WhatsApp calls. The inquiry will look into who was under surveillance and who spoke to whom before the 2023 elections. Internet protocol device records are also being gathered.
Several leaders and officials have claimed they used different apps to exchange messages. They believed their phones were being tapped. They allege the previous government kept these calls under surveillance.
It is said that around 600 WhatsApp calls were monitored during this period. The SIT has found that this was done under the orders of former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao. These findings have added weight to the case.
Tension is growing among BRS cadre as KTR and Harish Rao remain involved in the matter. Both leaders were told they can be summoned again if needed. The case has now become a major flashpoint between BRS and Congress.
