CAG Report: Shocking Facts On Kaleshwaram

For a while now, there have been complaints about the viability of the Kaleshwaram mega project. Now, the CAG audit on the irrigation project has deemed it “economically unviable” and presents the facts that the project has many irregularities.

It is further reported that undue benefits were provided to irrigation project contractors by the previous KCR government. This adds weight to Congress’s argument that the Kaleshwaram project is loaded with irregularities and disparities.

The final estimated cost of the Kaleshwaram Project is on course to exceed Rs 1,47,427 crore, as opposed to the initial estimated cost of Rs 81,911 crore.

The CAG audit found that the benefit-cost ratio of the project has also been inflated and moreover, no merit was assessed while awarding works to the contractors.

It is reported that undue benefits amounting to Rs 2700 crore to contractors are undeniably associated with the Kaleshwaram project.
