
The AP government in a first-of-its-kind initiative will provide 47 confirmatory diagnosis tests at doorstep through the revamped Mobile Medical Units (MMUs), popularly known as 104 services. The initiative will help the government to assess health condition of the people and implement targeted health interventions.
The new service provider will do 20 common tests at Rs 195 and other tests at reasonable prices. Each MMU is expected to screen 35 individuals in a day.

Electronic health records (EHRs) will be created to provide a comprehensive health record of the population. This will help the government to implement targeted health interventions. Till now, 104 service was providing two rapid-kit tests of diabetes and hypertension.
Tests for blood glucose, complete blood picture, renal function and liver function tests, lipid profile, urine analysis and arterial blood gas tests will be included in 20 tests. The other 27 disease-specific tests will be carried out as per requirement.

The confirmatory tests will be done on a pilot basis to check data reliability, before introducing them state-wide. All 904 MMUs will have a lab technician and required lab set-up.
The AP government has assigned the 104 and 108 services to Bhavya Health Services Private Limited and SRIT India Private Limited. The monthly cost of operations has gone up from Rs 28 crore to Rs 31 crore due to procurement of new equipment, rising fuel charges, increase in staff wages and getting 190 new 108 ambulances.
