Two mandals from Pulivendula and two more mandals from Jammalamadugu Assembly segments could be redrawn and realigned to make a new constituency. This will make Jagan Mohan Reddy’s winning chances slim here. Pulivendula is known to be a stronghold of the YSR family.
While former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy won three successive elections in 1999, 2004 and 2009, his younger brother, YS Vivekananda Reddy was the elected representative from the constituency for a decade before that. After YSR’s death, his wife Vijayamma, won in the 2011 polls, while his son Jaganmohan Reddy has been the representative since the 2014 elections.
