Data Point: CBN’s Arrest Influencing Kammas & Reddys In TS

Chandrababu-Naidu-Telangana

The other day, Survey Agency Mission Chanakya revealed its Prepoll Survey for Telangana. This is the first local survey report of Telangana Elections that will happen next month.

The agency claims that these numbers are used with Fourteen Lakh Datasets and they have started the exercise since Karnataka Elections

The Survey predicts BRS will win a third term comfortably.

Keeping that aside, there is an interesting insight about the voting based on Castes in Telangana, in the data they revealed.

According to that, Kammas who voted for BRS in 2018 are going to vote for Congress majorly this time. 43.33% of Kammas are going to vote for Congress while 36.80% of them are going to vote for BRS.

Coming to Reddys, there is a shift this time. In Telangana, Congress has been seen as Reddys Party since the start. The community often votes majorly in favor of Congress in every election but then, BRS is going to get 43.27% of their votes this time while Congress will get only 34.56%.

Experts say there is a substantial impact of Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest on the voting of both communities. A section of Kammas who were in favor of BRS until recently were upset with the way the BRS government handled the protests that erupted after Chandrababu’s arrest.

KTR’s repeated comments on the issue irked them and polarized them towards Congress.

A section of Reddys who are interested in AP politics, on the other side, may have shifted from Congress to BRS giving the ruling party an edge.

There is an impact on the voting patterns of other communities as well based on this issue. The data says CBN’s arrest and the BRS Government’s way of handling the issue may have impacted every settler with the majority being sympathetic to the Former Chief Minister.

However, there are not enough data points in the survey to clearly say the quantum of the impact.
