Producer Dil Raju recently sparked controversy with remarks comparing cultural preferences in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking at the Sankranthiki Vasthunam pre-release event in his hometown, Nizamabad, he claimed that Telangana people are less enthusiastic about films than those in Andhra.

He further commented that Telangana culture values “Tella Kallu (white liquor) and mutton,” which many found offensive.
These remarks drew significant backlash, particularly from Telanganites and Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leaders, who criticized him for his statements.

Realizing the political and cultural stir his comments had caused, Dil Raju issued a clarification.
He emphasized his respect for Telangana’s “Dawaat” culture and expressed regret if his words had hurt anyone. He urged people not to politicize his comments, reiterating that he never intended to disrespect the culture.

He has apologized if anyone was hurt and has requested everyone not to drag him into politics.
The incident has added a layer of controversy to the release of Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, which is scheduled to hit theaters on January 14, 2025.
