TANA, a non-profitable NRI association found in 1977 has been very influential in North America connecting various Telugu people across Atlantic in North America, especially in US and Canada. However, the association was dominated by Telugu people from Andhra region as the majority of Telugus living in NA belong to Andhra region.

Though the Andhra population in North America is considerably much higher (around 8.5 lakhs), Telangana population of around 1.5 lakhs wants to celebrate the diversity by floating a separate NGO. Hence the division of Telugus into Telanganites and Andhrites is going to become formal in America hereafter with TATA’s launch in April.
