Education Sector of Telangana in a deep mess!

telangana education sectorTelangana’s education sector seem to be in serious trouble with problems like severe staff shortage, lack of research, non-payment of hostel fee arrears by the government etc are plaguing the colleges and universities. The 10 state-run varsities are without regular vice chancellors and are reeling under severe staff and funds crunch.

Most of the varsities and colleges have only 50% staff halting the research work. Many of these are likely to lose the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) certificate by November and lose out on University Grants Commission (UGC) funds unless government appoints staff on a priority basis.

One more major issue is the government’s delay on clearing mess and hostel dues. Hundreds of SC/ST students are supposed to get their hostel and mess fees reimbursed but government is holding them for a long time. The spending on education in Telangana is just around 3.6 per cent mark, which is the lowest in the country.
