Election Commission’s letter giving ACB the mandate to interrogate Cash for Vote case is not going well with TDP leaders or the political analysts. They are surprised to see EC which is responsible for the strict compliance of the model code from the time of notification till the end of the election process has remained as a mute spectator in this case.

There were similar instances in the past where EC had itself carried out the investigation. In the 2010 Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha, ministers in the Odisha cabinet were caught in a TV sting operation luring opposition MLAs to vote for the ruling party candidate. EC booked cases on its own and carried out the investigation which did not happen in this case.
Giving ACB the mandate when its DG and higher officials directly report to Telangana Chief Minister morning and evening, will only make sure that this case is dealt with a political vendetta. Telugu Desam Party as a result is even considering legal options to question this anomaly of the EC.
