Double Trouble: Petrol and Diesel Prices Hiked by 90 Paise Across India

Consumers faced another fuel price shock on Tuesday morning, May 19, 2026. State-run oil marketing companies increased petrol and diesel prices by approximately 90 paise per litre across the nation.

This marks the second retail price revision in less than a week. The adjustment follows a steep ₹3 per litre hike implemented last Friday, effectively ending a nearly four-year administrative freeze on fuel price revisions.

Following the latest update, petrol in New Delhi climbed to ₹98.64 per litre, while diesel rose to ₹91.58. In Mumbai, petrol jumped to ₹107.59 and diesel reached ₹94.08, while Hyderabad recorded a steep ₹111.88 for petrol and ₹99.95 for diesel.

The back-to-back hikes are driven by soaring global crude prices and severe shipping disruptions in West Asia. Despite these consecutive increases, officials note that oil firms continue to absorb massive daily losses to protect retail consumers from the full brunt of international energy shocks.
