The Central government had agreed to fund the expansion of Gannavaram Airport provided the state government acquires the land needed. However the land acquisition is going no where as the land rates there are touching peaks. 450 acres are required for the airport expansion. The district administrations is holding series of meetings with farmers there for the land acquisition.
Farmers are demanding a whopping 1 Crore per acre for giving up their lands. Government had offered 40 Lakhs per acre in Ajjampudi, 50 Lakhs per acre in Buddhavaram and 79 Lakhs per acre in Kesurapalli but the farmers are stubborn.
They have even clarified that they should be given lands in the capital if the government wants to go for land pooling. Gannavaram airport is very necessary to kick off industrial development in the Andhra Pradesh as it is closest to the upcoming state capital.
