Google: Come to Office or Get Fired!

Google Ultimatum To Employees

Google has given an ultimatum to its employees who are working remotely to attend office or face termination. It is known that the tech giant is investing heavily on AI.

Hence, it is focusing on cost cutting elsewhere. As a part of this, it has started ‘return to office’ programme. It has asked the employees working remotely to come to office or be prepared to lose jobs. Various foreign media organisations have reported the news.

Google had made it clear that the employees must work three days from office. But due to certain reasons, it gave the facility of permanent work from home for some employees.

Now, they are being asked to work in the hybrid model. Otherwise, they will be terminated or they can pick voluntary exit packages, it communicated.

Google gave fresh directives to technical services, people operation departments. It said they can take to hybrid model or opt for one time relocation package closer to office.

Those living 50 miles away from Google office must follow the guidelines from June onwards, it said. However, these guidelines are not for all remote employees, an employee shared.

As the company is invested in AI, it is undergoing a major rehaul. In 2023, it announced lay-offs in different phases. Towards the end of 2024, Google had 1,83,000 employees, as per reports.
