Hyderabad High Court found fault with Telangana government for not conducting Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The court termed government’s action as running away from its constitutional responsibility.
It also opined that local bodies are pillars of democracy and they should not be ignored. The bench asked the government to decide up on the election date and file an affidavit to the high court along with the date. The court has given only one week time for the government to file this affidavit.
It is already an open secret that government is intentionally delaying the elections to GHMC as the ruling party is weak in the area which has big settler base. The government is working on defections from other parties to strengthen itself here. The equations will now turn interesting with the high court intervention.
