HC serious on farmers suicides in Telugu States

high court of telanganaAwareness forum had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the suicides of farmers in both the Telugu States. The Hyderabad high court had taken it today and was serious on the issue. The high court opined that giving compensation after the deaths will not help the farmers in any way and the governments should take steps to prevent the suicides.

The high court is of the opinion that the governments are not reaching out to the root cause of the issue and are just confining themselves to give compensations to the bereaved families. The court ordered the governments to tell them what steps are taken to prevent the suicides of the farmers.

The court sought the reports from both the state governments for the next hearing on October 13th. The farmers suicides issue is particularly very grave in Telangana. The newest state of the country is ranked 2nd in the country in farmers suicides and first ranked in women farmers suicides.
