How Other States Giving Pensions W/O Volunteers

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh dismissed the PIL challenging the Election Commission’s order to revoke volunteers from the distribution of pensions.

The PIL was filed by V. Varalakshmi and two others, who are the residents of Guntur district’s Kunchanapalli village. They requested the court to deliver interim orders directing the EC to withdraw its decision.

The lawyer representing the petitioner stated that the volunteers used to home-deliver pensions and told the court that the CS ordered the district collectors to disburse pensions in alternate ways.

In the meantime, the court affirmed that pensions are being distributed appropriately, even in states lacking a volunteer system.

It rejected the PIL, asserting that the Election Commission has implemented necessary measures to facilitate the seamless disbursal of pensions.
