Post-COVID, the number of privately owned vehicles has become alarmingly high, and the city has been dealing with constant traffic jams and diversions. While the Hyderabadis are trying to deal with this new situation, here comes the news that the capital of Telangana has been listed as the most polluted city in south India.
According to a Greenpeace India report, the PM 2.5 levels are at an alarming 8.2 times more than safe levels prescribed by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The report said high levels obviously mean negative long-term health impacts on the city’s people.
While PM 2.5 levels are at 40.91ug/m3 in Hyderabad, in Bangalore, it is 29.01 and 23.81 in Chennai. When it came to PM10 pollutant levels, Hyderabad recorded 57.84 ug/m3, which is three times the safe level.
Well, it’s time people started using public transport. Else, we will be yet another south-east Asian city where people suffer from severe health conditions.
