The Telangana government plans to build a new expressway in the heart of the city to reduce traffic for IT employees and connect directly to the Outer Ring Road. It has asked HMDA to prepare multiple plans to link Hyderabad and Cyberabad.
Officials are now preparing a feasibility report for a 6-lane expressway stretching over 10 km from Banjara Hills Rd No 12 to Gachibowli’s Silpa Layout. The plan follows the model of the PVR Expressway between Mehdipatnam and Shamshabad.
The city’s growing population has pushed traffic to unbearable levels. Even with flyovers, expressways and underpasses, congestion remains a major issue. Roads from IT corridors, areas near KBR Park and stretches from the Old Mumbai Highway continue to face heavy pressure.
The proposed expressway will run through Banjara Hills Rd No 12, Film Nagar, Judge’s Colony, Durgam Cheruvu and T-Hub before linking Gachibowli junction to Silpa Layout. It aims to support fast movement of vehicles into and out of the city. A six-lane road will cover about 6 km, with underpasses built wherever required.
HMDA has appointed a consultancy to survey the areas under the plan. The team will identify locations for flyovers, roads and underpasses. Once the study is complete, HMDA will submit a detailed project report to the state government.
