There was a time when Gachibowli was a tranquil, peaceful area on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Today, it is the noisiest part of the city.

Commercial Abids or industrial Sanath Nagar are far better than the din in Gachibowli. The vast expanses of real estate and high volumes of traffic on Mumbai Old Highway have made Gachibowli get to the top of the noisiest places in the city.

The Telangana State Pollution Board (TSPB) shows how the University of Hyderabad monitoring station recordings have left other busy places like Abids and JNTU behind. So is the case with industrial areas like Jeedimetla and Gaddapotharam.

In areas marked as sensitive, the acceptable noise levels are 50 decibels (dB) in day time and 40 dB in night time. But the readings in Gachibowli have gone much beyond the norms with the first 10 days of February recording 73.53 dB.

In the day time, it was 70 dB and during the night it was 69 dB or 70 dB. On Feb 3rd, the noise levels in Gachibowli were 73.53 dB. Abids recorded 56.05 dB and Jubilee Hills recorded 58.66 dB.

At another sensitive area Nehru Zoological Park, the noise levels were at 65 dB to 67 dB.

For those residing in Gachibowli with its surrounding areas like Kondapur, Madhapur, financial district, Nallagandla and Tellapur, the once-upon-a-time tranquility is now a distant dream.
