Hyderabadis can now taste Toddy!

Toddy (Kallu in Telugu) which was banned from Hyderabad almost a decade ago will be making a comeback to the city from this Dussehra. Several deaths occurred in the past due to adulterated toddy and a ban was imposed on it since then but TRS government in its poll promises promised to bring back toddy to give a helping hands to those families dependent on Toddy business for survival.

With sheer commitment to the promise, government is going to allow the flow of toddy in GHMC limits from October first week. The government is planning to form socities for individuals to sell toddy directly with out the interference of middlemen and contractors. There are no palm trees in Hyderabad to meet the demand of Toddy and there is always a danger of sellers diluting the sap and adulterate it with intoxicants like alprazolam, chloral hydrate and diazepam. These chemicals are harmful and will adversely affect the nervous system, including impairment of vision.
