Indian origin doctor, Dipak Desai, 65, who runs an endoscopy centre in Las Vegas was sentenced for 71 months prison after he was found guilty of overcharging the US health insurance systems for senior citizens and for the poor as well as private health insurers for providing anesthesia services.

He was also ordered to repay over $2.2 million for the fraud. His employees revealed in the investigation that they were pressurized by the top management to schedule and treat as many patients as possible in a day.
Later they mounted immense pressure on nurse anesthetists to overstate in their records the amount of time they spent on the anesthesia procedures. The endoscopy company’s CEO Tonya Rushing was earlier sentenced to a year in jail for her role in the scam.
