The 18-year-old income Tax case against Former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Jayalalithaa has sent the iron lady buzzing all of sudden. However Jaya do not want to risk the issue further and is planning an out-of-court settlement. It is said that she requested to sort the issue with a fine with the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the later accepted her plea.
Income Tax Appellate Tribunal has agreed to compound offences against Jayalalithaa and her close-aide, Sasikala along with their Jaya Publications and Sasi Enterprises for non-filing of I-T returns for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 fiscals. They could be now let off with a fine of Rs. 2 crore and the case will be withdrawn.
Opposition parties allege that this compromise come in the wake of secret nexus between BJP and AIADMK. The Jayalalithaa’s party will now be supporting NDA government in the parliament. Even though BJP enjoys absolute majority in Lok Sabha. Congress is still on a higher side in Rajya Sabha.
