The high-voltage canvassing for the Jubilee Hills by-election officially came to an end on Sunday, but political experts say the real action is only just beginning. With polling set to take place soon, both major parties are reportedly moving into what analysts describe as the “poll engineering” phase, where every vote counts and every household matters.
According to estimates by political observers, a staggering Rs 100 to Rs 120 crore could be circulated in the final 48 hours leading up to polling day. With such massive sums allegedly being spent, both parties are said to be working hard to micro-manage the voter base, focusing particularly on slum and basti areas where mobilization can make a significant difference.
The Jubilee Hills constituency has about 4.01 lakh registered voters, and in the last assembly election, voter turnout stood at around 47 percent. This time, the target is to push turnout higher through meticulous booth-level management. Each booth reportedly has a local in-charge responsible for about 50 voters to arrange transportation in autos and private vehicles for voters on election day.
Meanwhile, in upscale apartment communities, second-level leaders are said to be distributing household items such as washing machines, refrigerators, grinders, sarees, and even small generators to woo the urban population. In some cases, direct cash handouts are being used as incentives.
Reports suggest that one party has already distributed Rs 1000 to nearly one lakh voters, with plans to hand out another Rs 1000 per person before polling begins. The rival camp, on the other hand, is said to be offering Rs 2500 each to around 2.5 lakh voters. Both sides have deployed local influencers and ward leaders to ensure that their respective beneficiaries turn up at the polling booths.
With just hours remaining until the polls open, political analysts predict that the last two days will be decisive. Distributions and mobilization efforts are expected to continue until early morning on polling day. The big question now is whether these alleged Rs 100 crore “goodies” will actually translate into votes or if voter sentiment will swing based on performance and perception instead of handouts.
