Demolishing some of the buildings in the illegal lands of Gurukul Trust (also known as Ayyappa Society Lands) is the first controversial decision of KCR government. The decision then created a huge political stir back then. Later government even started harassing the residents there by collecting 10 times the power bills, water bills etc. Later the high court came in the support of residents and ordered the government to consider the issue in humane angle given they are residing there for several years.
Gurukul Trust has 627 acres land there. Out of which the then government gave 140 acres to Novotel, HICC and others. And one person in the trust illegally sold most of the remaining lands to various people and societies. Government argued that the lands in the possession of endowments ministry can not be sold by private people and the controversy is stirring since then.
Finally on the high court’s order, Telangana government had decided to regularize these illegal constructions according to the current regularization scheme. According to official figures there are 800 buildings here and out of which 450 are apartments. Government is expected to get a minimum of 100 Crore income from these lands alone.
