KCR hints at return with padayatra
KCR appears ready to take his political fight against the Revanth Reddy government back to the streets.
At the BRS Legislature Party meeting in Erravelli, KCR criticised the Congress government and said he may soon take up a padayatra. He also asked BRS MLAs to strongly raise public issues in the Assembly.
A padayatra could help KCR change the current political narrative around him.
The Congress has been questioning KCR’s absence from the Assembly and public programmes. If he returns to the streets, the BRS can send a simple message: KCR is back in the field.
KTR’s recent announcement makes this more interesting.
On September 3, KTR said he would take up a Kodad to Haliya padayatra with thousands of farmers if the Telangana government failed to announce a clear water release schedule for the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal by September 14.
KTR also recalled KCR’s 2003 Kodad-Haliya padayatra, which focused on farmers depending on the canal.
The timing is hard to miss. KTR is following a route once used by his father, while KCR is preparing to return to the streets.
The BRS appears to be putting farmers, irrigation and water issues at the centre of its political campaign.
But the real test is whether these padayatras can create lasting political momentum. Crowds can make headlines, but the BRS will need to reconnect with farmers, cadre and voters across Telangana.
