Since the day the Telangana government started cleaning of Hussainsagar Lake, there were allegations that the government is taking it up with out proper scientific analysis. Now the new controversy is that the depletion of water levels in Hussainsagar by 2 meters.

The Courts ordered Telangana government only to clean the lake but do not alter with the water levels or the lake area. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had constituted a two-member committee in the last week of May to look into the issue and submit a report by June 10.
This move of the government comes when Hyderabad is suffering from severe water crisis in summer. Already the ground water levels are depleting in several areas, instead of conserving water, the state government is wasting it. Environmentalists urge the NGT committee to submit the report as quickly as possible because if it is delayed, the de-watering would continue and the damage would be beyond repair.
