Kodi Pandem(Cockfight) is a famous or perhaps even infamous tradition that is extensively observed during the Sankranthi season in the Telugu states, and more so in the Godavara districts. The same thing happened this year and the first day of the events itself has yielded huge unaccounted revenue, say reports.
According to the reports, approximately Rs 100 crores changed hangs on the first day of these cockfight events in the Telugu states. The events in Godavari districts alone generated Rs 40-50 crores in revenues, it seems.
While the majority of this money exchange is through betting on cockfights other businesses like liquor sales, and meat sales contribute a significant amount as well.
The roosters that die in the sport are brought by food enthusiasts for Rs 15,000 – 25,000 and they are cooked up as delicacies.
In total, the approximate transaction values for the first day of the Kodi Pandems in AP is around Rs 100 crores. Reportedly, many public representatives also took part in these events today.
