KTR For Parliament: Will It Be Of Any Use?

Eenadu has reported that the BRS party is discussing the possibility of fielding KTR in the upcoming Parliament elections from Malkajgiri or Secunderabad to give a boost to the party’s campaign.

The report said KTR neither showed interest nor opposed it vehemently and it will be for KCR to make a final decision.

But then, this proposal is unlikely to work for KTR or BRS.

KTR is already the MLA from Siddipet. Contesting in the Parliament election and winning means he has to choose between Siddipet or the MP seat.

Choosing the MP seat is difficult because KTR’s ambitions lie in the Assembly. He is almost like a defacto Chief Minister when BRS is in power and as a defacto Leader of the Opposition in the recent session even though KCR is the BRSLP leader.

BRS may go for election in 2028 as KTR is the face. Also, KCR will not be very active in the Opposition. So, BRS needs KTR very much in the State Politics.

This will be the Opposition’s campaign against him in the Parliament elections. It may bring unnecessary headaches too.

The only positive side of this proposal is BRS being strong in the capital area. GHMC area unanimously chose BRS in recent elections but people likely chose the ruling party in the MP election. KTR contesting from Malkajgiri or Secunderabad may negate that effect.

Even without KTR, BRS will be better placed in the GHMC area. It will be better if KCR contests Medak to influence the Rural voters who have turned totally against Pink Park.
