Many super-rich Indians have taken the exit route from India to Caribbean countries for better business opportunities, a better lifestyle, to avoid health hazards and pollution, and financial concerns, among many other reasons.
Indian government handled the pandemic pretty well. But on the other side of the world, Dominica has been using the funds from the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program to overhaul its healthcare system by building a state-of-art hospital and 14 polyclinics along with upgrading the existing infrastructure.
Though the CBI program has been around for decades, the interest in it has been rising since 2020. It allows super-rich individuals and their families to become citizens of another territory in exchange for investing in the country, either via private contribution to the government fund or investment in a real-estate undertaking.
Also, the monies that the Caribbean gets are given back to improving key areas of education and healthcare, improving the quality of life, service, and delivery of schools and hospitals. Indians who seek dual citizenship crave all these factors and are motivated by the standard of living that every territory offers.
Education is compulsory, and healthcare is the best. While the new entrants will get the best, the entry of super-rich Indians is equally valuable to the host nation in terms of the quality of investment and human resources it receives.
In short, one can wrap up by saying, the CBI may be small in size, but they are big in aspirations.
