Nobel Peace Prize Announced, It’s Not Trump

Maria Corina Machado Nobel Peace Prize 2025

The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 has been awarded to Maria Corina Machado from Venezuela. The Norway Nobel Committee announced the decision on Friday, recognising her relentless fight to protect democratic rights in her country.

Maria Corina received the honour for her peaceful efforts to restore democracy in Venezuela. She faced constant threats and has been in hiding for a year since last year’s presidential elections. Despite this, she continued to stand up for her people’s freedom.

The Committee praised Maria as one of Latin America’s most extraordinary examples of civilian courage. Her leadership inspired millions as she worked peacefully to move Venezuela away from dictatorship towards democracy.

Maria Corina Machado served as a Parliamentarian and opposition leader in Venezuela. Her calm and firm approach to political reform made her a symbol of hope across Latin America.

Since 1901, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded 105 times. A total of 111 individuals and 31 organisations have received it so far. The youngest winner is Malala Yousufzai, while Joseph Rotblat became the oldest at 86. Machado, now 58, joins this historic list of laureates.
