100 Cars to Delhi! Is This What Medak Voted For?

Mynampally Rohit's 100-Car Convoy to Delhi

Mynampally Rohit, the Congress MLA from Medak, has apparently decided that travelling to Delhi for Rahul Gandhi‘s Chalo Delhi march requires a convoy of 100 cars. He started from Hyderabad yesterday and wants to create history with this journey.

History? For travelling in 100 cars?

Around 1,700 kilometres with a convoy of 100 vehicles. The amount of petrol being burnt, the money being spent and the unnecessary movement created on the roads. Does anyone really need such a massive convoy to attend a party programme?

A public representative is supposed to understand the value of public resources and the inconvenience ordinary people face. Instead, we are watching an MLA turn a political journey into a social media event. There are reels, videos and all the excitement about creating history.

Mynampally Rohit is also a product of political inheritance. His father, Mynampally Hanumanth Rao, is a senior Congress leader. Rohit got his political opportunity when his father moved to Congress ahead of the 2023 elections. There is nothing unusual about political families bringing their children into politics. But once elected, the responsibility is to prove oneself through work.

What is the point of getting elected to the Assembly if a leader cannot understand the difference between political responsibility and personal publicity?

The irony is that these are the very people who speak about public issues, public money and people’s hardships. Yet, a 100-car convoy travelling thousands of kilometres for a party event apparently deserves to be celebrated.

Rohit may call it history. People are perfectly entitled to call it a wasteful political spectacle. Medak needs an MLA who works for the constituency, not one who needs 100 cars to make his presence felt.
