Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is ambitious to include the state in the coastal industrial development project between Japan and Bangladesh. The project known as Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt’ or BIG-B is aimed at industrial agglomeration from Japan to Bangladesh by developing infrastructure, improving investment environment and fostering connectivity between the two countries.
the project will include three elements. The first is industry and trade, the second is energy, with transportation being the third. BIG-B will make sure that it improves Bangladesh’s transportation and infrastructure, ensure stable supply of power and energy, bring about urban development including special economic zone improvement, and also public sector development including improved market access to the financial market.
Naidu is keen to extend this belt till Andhra Pradesh and is taking up this issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and minister of state for commerce and industry Nirmala Sitharaman to lobby with Japan for taking up AP’s inclusion in the BIG-B project.
