Naidu to immortalize INS Viraat as floating museum!

vizag-INS-Viraat-museumOne of the oldest serving warships will be retiring soon and the Andhra Pradesh CM plans to immortalize it as a ‘floating museum’. The INS Viraat, the second aircraft carrier in the fleet in India and a long-standing warship will be decommissioned by the year 2016 and the Indian Navy hopes that it does not meet the same end as its predecessor did.

INS Vikrant, the first aircraft carrier, was decommissioned in the year 1997 and had to be sent to the scrap yard after waiting for 18 years worth efforts of preserving it. The Navy officers want to steer clear of any such situation regarding INS Viraat.

The Chief Minister came up with the plan of keeping it preserved as a “floating museum”, located at about 170 km from the Submarine Museum of Vishakhapatnam at the Kakinada Port.
