Nara Lokesh signs Australia MoUs
When Nara Lokesh visited Australia a few weeks ago, the focus was on his meetings with universities, businesses and government representatives. Many wondered whether those meetings would lead to anything meaningful for Andhra Pradesh.
AP Government has signed four MoUs with leading Australian institutions in the presence of IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh and Australian Assistant Minister Julian Hill. The agreements cover clean energy, inclusive education, student mental health and skill development.
The biggest among them is the Solar Manufacturing Centre of Excellence. IIT Tirupati, the University of New South Wales and the Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition in Visakhapatnam will work together on solar manufacturing, panel recycling and clean energy research. It also supports Andhra Pradesh’s plans to become a renewable energy hub.
The remaining agreements focus on teacher training for children with autism and other neurodiverse conditions, virtual counselling for students, and internationally recognised skill training to improve overseas job opportunities for Andhra Pradesh’s youth.
What stands out is the government’s approach. Instead of focusing only on factories and investment announcements, it is also trying to build partnerships in education, research and skill development.
The visit will not be judged by the number of MoUs signed. It will be judged by what these agreements achieve over the next few years.
If they lead to better research, stronger education and more jobs for young people, Lokesh’s Australia visit will be remembered for delivering real results, not just meetings and photo opportunities.
