L&T Metro Rail MD and Hyderabad Metro Rail Project Incharge Vivek B Gadgil has confirmed that there is no change in the plan of Metro Rail project and the works will go on according to the plan agreed up on two years ago. Gadgil went on to say he did not receive any official communication from Telangana government regarding the underground metro rail proposal but learnt about it only through Newspapers.
He confirmed that the first phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail, the Nagole-Mettuguda route will start functioning from Ugadi next year and the second phase, Miyapur-SR Nagar is expected to complete by August 15th 2015. L&T had so far invested 4360 Crores in this project. This is 800 Crores more than the initial projections. The cost is elevated due to various factors like change in interest rates, change in rupee values etc.
