The people of Vijayawada may not get their own Shilparamama as the district administration did not give Tourism department the land required to develop the crafts village. Earlier during the Kiran Kumar Reddy’s regime, the Shilparamam is planned on the Bhavani Island.

But Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu wants it in urban area easily reachable to people but the officials could not give them the suitable land. As a result, the tourism department had shelved the idea and are planning a crafts village now in Guntur district.
The Shilparamam unit at Anantapur is nearing completion, works will commence at Vizianagaram shortly. Srikakulam Shilparamam is also awaiting the land allocation by the officials. These craft villages are expected to give the much needed boost to local tourism in Andhra Pradesh.
