NTR’s wife Basava Tarakam passed away due to Cancer. She was airlifted to the US and was treated by Nori Dattatreyudu, who was once named one of the top doctors in America for the treatment of cancers for women.

Basava Tarakam felt such a treatment should be available in Andhra Pradesh as well. NTR started a Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad after her name after consulting Nori Dattatreyudu.

The hospital imparts cancer care at very nominal prices for the white cardholders and reasonable less prices for the others. Nandamuri Balakrishna is the chairman of the hospital.

Today, the hospital is one of the Best Cancer Hospitals in Asia.

NTR was also very progressive in his thought process. He believed in Democracy and changed the Social Structure of the Telugu States to bring in equality.

Patel/Patwari/Karnam/Munsubu systems were abolished by NTR. Those are hereditary revenue jobs and they behaved as feudal lords. NTR believed such jobs had no place in a modern democracy and he uprooted the feudal institution that has been there for 700 years.

He was also the first leader to give ample opportunities to the Backward Classes leaders. Today, many BC leaders across the parties have their roots in TDP because of NTR.

NTR was the first Telugu leader to recognize the importance of STEM Education. He believed STEM Education is the Future and brought EAMCET (EMCET back then) for engineering and medical entrance.

EAMCET has been a revolutionary step in tuning the Mindset of Telugu Youth towards STEM Education and today, Telugus are shining in the fields of IT and Medicine as a result. This has uplifted many families from Poverty and Middle-Class lives and contributed to the State’s GDP and Progress.

Remember NTR achieved all this by being in Power for just Seven Years!
