In the first ever General Council Meeting after Jayalalithaa’s demise, the party has announced the appointment of Chinna Amma Sasikala as the party’s new General Secretary. Party’s Treasurer and Chief Minister O Paneer Selvam announced the appointment to the media after the meeting.

All steps were taken to make sure Sasikala’s appointment is smooth and there is no competition. Sasikala would want to repeat the feat as MGR and Jayalalithaa who simultaneously held the positions of Party’s Chief Secretary and that of the state Chief Minister.
But then the pending cases of Disproportionate Assets is preventing her from doing that. She would make such move only after getting cleared from those cases. Until then she will be moving her pawns through Paneer Selvam who is more of a rubber stamp Chief Minister.
