The average salary of those recruited from IIT Delhi is Rs 19.10 lakh at an average this year. This is in keeping with the figures of previous year 2024.
As of January, 2025, only 61% of IIT students got jobs. Also, the priceline is rather low for the tail-end students. The dream of high packages has remained a dream for many IITians.

With the top IITs getting packages in crores, the average there could be between Rs 28 to Rs 20 lakh per annum. However, with companies scaling back on hiring, those at the tail-end are being offered less than Rs 10 lakh per annum.
Companies that would pick half a dozen, are now picking one or two students, pushing the colleges to reach out to more companies. This is resulting in reduction of average salaries.

Those who have got lower pay scales are still in the market on portals and travelling to other cities to attend interviews.
The IITs on their part are facing a challenging placement season due to global economic conditions. They are stretching out to alumni networks, NGOs and even to Public Sector Units (PSUs).

Students are also opting for coaching classes and start-ups at very low packages out of the need to have a job. The colleges too are providing guidance to final year students to help them procure a job during placements.
In November, 2024, the annual package offered to an IIT student was Rs 4 lakh per annum. Indeed a bleak season for IITians!
