YSR Congress is effectively 46 MLAs after 21 MLAs have defected from the Party. Telugu Desam Party is reportedly in talks with another 6 MLAs from YSR Congress to prevent the Opposition Party from getting another Rajya Sabha Seat.

In the Previous Rajya Sabha Elections held in 2016, YSR Congress was able to send V. Vijay Sai Reddy as an RS member. Those retiring include Chiranjeevi, Renuka Chowdary, Devender Goud and CM Ramesh. TDP may renominate CM Ramesh once again.
