The Center is likely to give a huge shock to the Telangana government by doing away with the survey carried out by Telangana government. The Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had announced that the Center will carry out a caste census along with population census.
He also said that the surveys carried out by states lacked transparency. With this the survey done by the Telangana government has become a huge question mark.

The Center has made its stand clear saying that the census done by state governments are mere surveys, done for political gains. So the question arises about their validity and doubts are being expressed that these ‘surveys’ will be done away with. Many are wondering if the earlier surveys will be counted or if fresh census will be carried out for the whole country.
Vaishnaw had said that census was a union subject. He also said there was no transparency in surveys done by Telangana, Karnataka and Bihar. He went on to say that while the Center listed out 2650 OBC categories, in the states more than 3651 categories were shown. Hence, we have to review them again, said the Minister.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has decided to provide 42% reservations for BCs in local bodies, education, employment and jobs. Now, with the Center’s decision, there is anxiety among people.
Also, according to the Census Act, 1948, only the central government has the right to carry out the census. As per 2008 Act, states are not supposed to conduct census. It is a Center subject.

So, talk is that Revanth Reddy’s ‘intinti survey’ may not hold ground.
For the survey, aadhar, voter and ration card details will be taken. People’s social, education, employment, financial and political opportunities will be collected and a report will be prepared. This report has to be approved by the Cabinet. Only then will the census be valid.
The Telangana Congress government carried out a survey in 2024, November. People of the state are waiting with bated breath if the Center will retain it or discard it!
