Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh which is known for its natural beauty is inspiring the whole World by being plastic banned city. Shimla has plastic ban in place since 1995 and plastic carry bags have completely disappeared in Shimla since 1999.
Plastic bags above 70 microns are only allowed there since 2004. The city is also known for its excellent plastic recycling facility. Shimla is using plastic wastes as tar for construction of roads.
And now, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to take Shimla as inspiration and is planning to implement the same in Hyderabad. Plastic ban is in place in GHMC since 2011 but is failed totally in the implementation. However GHMC is planning to implement the plastic ban strictly from this year and make Hyderabad a plastic free city in the next couple of years.
