Union government had announced the list of 100 Smart Cities and 500 Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation scheme (AMRUT) Cities to be developed by Union Urban Development Ministry. AP has got slightly better bet than Telangana in these lists. AP gets 3 Smart Cities while Telangana gets two. Similarly, AP gets 31 AMRUT cities while Telangana gets 15.

The respective state government can nominate the cities to be developed as per the allocations. Uttar Pradesh is the biggest beneficiaries of the scheme as it has been given the opportunity to nominate 13 cities to be developed as smart cities, while 54 cities in the state have been identified under AMRUT scheme.
Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka are the next in the list. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be launching implementation guidelines for 100 Smart Cities, 500 AMRUT cities and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana on June 25.
