The Supreme Court of India granted anticipatory bail to T Prabhakar, the ex Special Investigation Bureau for the ex BRS government. Rao is accused of intercepting phones of politicians, celebrities and even high court judges prior to 2023 assembly elections to help the then BRS government.
In fact, even the phones of family members of KCR were tapped including those of Kavitha, her husband and her staff, it is alleged. The case has been following a zig zag trajectory from the very beginning.
After Revanth Reddy came to power, he accused the BRS government of phone tapping and claimed to have proofs. However, the case fizzled out from time to time as the investigating agencies found deleted and destroyed data.
In fact, Prabhakar Rao went away to the US to escape local police. However, after Court’s intervention, he was called back to India. He faced investigation, though nothing emerged out of it.
Now, the Supreme Court has given Rao protection from arrest with some conditions. The Supreme Court ordered that Rao must not tamper with any evidence related to the case. The Court also ordered Rao not to do anything or travel without the permission of the Trial Court.
Prabhakar Rao was taken for custodial arrest in December 2025 and released on December 26, 2025. There have been rumours of the main players being arrested in the phone tapping case and Rao’s bail comes as a relief for BRS leaders.
Despite a lot of hullabaloo over the case, so far nothing much has emerged and the case is almost out of the minds of people except for these important developments.
